Now Hiring: Youth Pastor

University Baptist Church (UBC) in Waco, Texas is seeking a 20-hour per week Youth Pastor who will promote UBC’s Mission by overseeing all areas of student ministry (6th-12th grade). Through their participation in church life and community, and in collaboration with the pastoral staff, Leadership Team, and families of UBC, the Youth Pastor promotes the spiritual formation and education of our middle school and high school students. They will work to ensure that students encounter the love and welcome of Jesus Christ in safe, creative, and lasting ways. The Youth Pastor will provide meaningful opportunities for students to grow, learn, and experience Christ in community. UBC’s contemporary worship model does not see a division between the sacred and the secular, and seeks to approach God through creative liturgies and artistic expressions. UBC is a medium-sized, inclusive church that is fully affirming of women in ministry and the LGBTQIA+ community. The Youth Pastor will report directly to the Lead Pastor. Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities of the Youth Pastor break down into three main categories - Programming/Administration, Pastoral Care/Relationship Building, Staff Participation. 

Wednesday Evenings and Related Duties:

  • Plan and oversee Wednesday evening programing for middle school and high school students. This includes: Selecting age‐appropriate lessons that resonate with UBC’s core values, planning games/activities, and coordinating dinner.

  • Recruit, train, and supervise youth ministry volunteers. Provide ongoing equipping to ensure that volunteers are empowered and motivated to build meaningful connections with students. Communicate with volunteers well-ahead of Wednesday evenings and special events regarding their roles and responsibilities.

  • Integrate students into the broader UBC community. This includes: Working with full-time pastoral staff to incorporate students in worship services, church-wide events, etc.

  • Participate in Sunday morning worship services when scheduled (call to worship, announcements, etc.) 

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding the spiritual formation of their student, upcoming events, and current curriculum.

  • Maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive environment for students to explore all elements of their faith.  Facilitate conversations about questions and doubts without feeling the need the resolve them for students. 

Additional Events, Sunday Mornings, and Related Duties:

  • Offer regular opportunities for students to gather outside of the church building.

  • Make arrangements for summer camp and attend with UBC students. Coordinate fundraising, transportation, meals, and additional considerations related to summer camp.

  • Provide space before Sunday morning service for students to gather and connect.

Pastoral Care and Relationship Building:

  • Support families in promoting their students’ spiritual formation. Communicate with families and invite their feedback, questions, and ideas regarding the ministry.

  • Foster and grow relationships with youth ministry volunteers.

  • In partnership with the full-time pastoral staff, support students and their families during life events, transitions, and loss.

  • Personally engage students in meaningful and connecting ways outside of regularly scheduled programing/events (attending concerts, plays, games, coffee/lunch, etc.)

  • Promote curiosity, wonder, and openness in the students of UBC by modeling a faith that is personal and communal.

Staff Participation and Additional Expectations:

  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings

  • Promote openness and values of consensus-building, responsibility, candor, and perspective-taking among the staff. 

  • Create and maintain a yearly youth ministry budget.

  • Meet regularly with the lead pastor for care, visioning, resourcing, and transparent communication regarding the status of youth ministry.

  • Utilize effective organizational strategies to facilitate the administrative components of the role related to open and timely communication (i.e. calendar, volunteer training, event planning).

Skills & (Minimum) Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Previous experience working with students

  • Administration experience

  • Support and embodiment of UBC’s mission and values

  • Consistent and timely communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Theological training from an accredited seminary

  • Previous pastoral experience

  • Team recruiting and maintenance
