Liturgy Stuff 2-13-2022

February 13, 2022

***Thanks to Nathanael Mosher for playing music while Jamie is preaching***

Below, you’ll find the song lyrics and scripture readings for the live stream on February 13th (in the order they are needed).

This is My Father’s World

This is my Father's world,
and to my listening ears
all nature sings, and round me rings
the music of the spheres.

This is my Mother's world,
the birds their carols raise,
the morning light, the lily white,
declare their Maker's praise.

This is my Father's world:
I rest me in the thought
of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
His hand the wonders wrought.

This is my Mother's world,
Oh let me ne'er forget
that though the wrong seems
oft so strong
God is the ruler yet.

This is my Mother's world:
Why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is king, let the heavens ring!
God reigns let the earth be glad.

This is my Mother's world:
She shines in all that's fair;
in the rustling grass I hear Her pass;
She speaks to me everywhere.

Call to Worship

we have gathered to worship the Living God

the Eternal One
in whom we live and move and have our being

to enter the story of God

and find our own stories reimagined

that the Spirit of God might form us in the way of Christ

that we might learn to love God
our neighbor
and our selves
with our ordinary lives

amen

In Labor All Creation Groans

In labor all creation groans till fear and hatred cease,
Till human hearts come to believe: In Christ alone is peace.

In labor all creation groans till prejudice shall cease,
Till every race and tribe and tongue in Christ will live in peace.

In labor all creation groans till rape and murder cease,
Till women walk by night unharmed and Christ is this world’s peace.

In labor all creation groans till false divisions cease,
Till enemies are reconciled in Christ who is our peace.

How Long

how long will You turn Your face away?
how long? Do You hear us when we pray?
on and on, still we walk this pilgrim way.
how long?
how long 'til Your children find their rest?
how long 'til You draw
them to Your breast?
we go on holding to Your promises.
how long?

'til You wipe away the
tears from every eye
'til we see our home descending
from the sky?
do we wait in vain?
Jesus give us hope again.

how long 'til Your word will still the storm?
how long 'till You bare Your mighty arm?
how we groan, 'til You snatch us
from the thorns?
how long?

'til You wipe away the tears
from every eye
'til we see our home descending
from the sky?
do we wait in vain?
Jesus give us hope again.

how long? sweet the dawn that
ends the race.
how long? weak our hearts
but strong our legs.
looking on - great that cloud of witnesses.
How long?

'til You wipe away the tears
from every eye
'til we see our home descending
from the sky?
do we wait in vain?
Jesus give us hope again.

Let It Storm (by Manchester Orchestra)

Waiting in your line
You've got to go this time
Wouldn't waste my time
You wouldn't lie, you wouldn't lie
Baby's breath, another secret kept
Another lost regret
Another movement in the thread

Oh, don't mind
I wouldn't hurt you
Oh, don't mind
I wouldn't search you
Desert you, convert you

I don't want to hold back my faith anymore
I don't want to fall into that man again
I just want to keep both my feet on the floor
So let it touch me
And let it storm

Fairness in your time
You had a lot, let it slide
You wrote it down, let it hide
You felt it blossom in your mind
Fear is for the false
So let it go, let it go
You lay it down, watch it grow
You let it live, you take it home

Oh, don't mind
I wouldn't hurt you
Oh, don't mind
I wouldn't search you
Desert you, convert you

I don't want to hold back my faith anymore
I don't want to fall into that man again
I just want to keep both my feet on the floor
So let it touch me
And let it storm

When the guilt's got you strapped to your bed
Gnashing teeth while you bargain your debt
And you just can't get it out of your head
Call it holy

I don't want to hold back my faith anymore
I don't want to fall into that man again
I just want to keep both my feet on the floor
So let it touch me
And let it storm

Old Testament Reading

Today’s Old Testament lectionary reading is Jeremiah 17: 5-10:

Thus says the Lord:

Cursed are those who trust in mere mortals
and make mere flesh their strength,
whose hearts turn away from the Lord.

They shall be like a shrub in the desert,
and shall not see when relief comes.

They shall live in the parched places of the wilderness,
in an uninhabited salt land.

Blessed are those who trust in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord.

They shall be like a tree planted by water,
sending out its roots by the stream.

It shall not fear when heat comes,
and its leaves shall stay green;

in the year of drought it is not anxious,
and it does not cease to bear fruit.

The heart is devious above all else;
it is perverse--
who can understand it?

I the Lord test the mind
and search the heart,

to give to all according to their ways,
according to the fruit of their doings.

New Testament Reading

Today’s New Testament lectionary reading is Luke 6:17-26:

Jesus came down with the twelve apostles and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them.

Then he looked up at his disciples and said:

“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.

“Blessed are you who are hungry now,
for you will be filled.

“Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.

“Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets."

"But woe to you who are rich,
for you have received your consolation.

"Woe to you who are full now,
for you will be hungry.

"Woe to you who are laughing now,
for you will mourn and weep.

"Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets."

House of God Forever

god is my shepherd
i won’t be wanting, i won’t be wanting
god makes me rest in fields of green
with quiet streams
even though i walk through the valley
of death and dying
i will not fear, for you are with me
you’re always with me

your shepherd’s staff comforts me
you are my feast in the presence of enemies
surely goodness will follow me, will follow me
in the house of god forever
