JAMIE’S POST

The Story We Live In

This past Sunday I talked about the immersive and transformative nature of the liturgical calendar, part of which included some questions we are invited to consider in each of the seasons (if you missed it, you can find it on Facebook—we are having some issues with the podcast, but it should be up sometime later this week). In the future, I plan to do some more extensive writing about each season, but in the meantime, I wanted to park that list of questions I discussed here:

Advent
What does it mean to believe in God in a world full of pain?

Christmas
What does it mean for God to be with us?

Epiphany
What is God like?

Lent
Who am I? What am I for? What does it mean to life to the fullest?

Eastertide
Where is life springing up around me? Where can I amplify the beauty around me?

Ascension/Pentecost/Ordinary Time

What does it mean to be people who are formed in the way of Christ in this time and place? What does it mean to love my neighbor as my self?

Christ the King
What if all of this is going to be okay?

THIS WEEK

Youth Group Returns!- August 21st, 6pm

Youth Group will resume Wednesday night meetings on August 21st. We meet at UBC from 6-8pm and dinner is provided. If you are a person between 6th and 12th grade please join us! For more regular updates on youth group please email emily@ubcwaco.org to get on the youth email list.

Welcome Back Lunch - August 25th, after church

We are excited to welcome back students this weekend, and excited to welcome back all of you who have been traveling for the summer.  This Sunday after church we will have lunch from El Crucero!  We will have a vegan/gluten-free/dairy-free option, to accommodate any dietary restrictions or convictions.  Please plan to stay for lunch this weekend. If you have any questions, contact toph@ubcwaco.org

GIVING

UBC survives on the generosity of our congregation. Your financial contributions allow us to continue to create a space that is welcoming to all, embraces beauty, and seeks to live life to the fullest.

You can give, as you’re able, on Sunday mornings or set up a single or recurring online gift here.

If you ever have trouble with giving online or have a question about how to give, feel free to email administrator@ubcwaco.org.

Baby McCrae Dizdar Mackey was born on Friday, 8/16. He was 9 lbs 5 oz! Abbey, Wade, and McCrae as well as May and Zach are all doing well at home and loving being a family of 5! You can sign up to support them with a meal here.

Youth Group Dinner Volunteers

We are in need of volunteers to bring dinner for youth group to enjoy together. Here is a link to sign up.

Kid’s Volunteers

It’s time to sign up for the fall rotation of kids volunteers! Never volunteered in a kids room? Fear not: there is a training on August 18th after church. Do it for the future! You can sign up here.

The Cove - restocking supplies

Our friends over at The Cove are running short on some supplies, and we have agreed to help them restock.  The Cove is a Waco-based nonprofit designed to provide a safe space for youth experiencing homelessness to access the resources they need.  The items most needed now are full size bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion.  They are also in need of feminine hygiene - specifically pads.  Would you consider purchasing some of these items and bringing them to UBC the next two Sundays to help our friends at the Cove?  There will be a place outside Toph’s office for you to drop these items off.  If you have any questions, please contact toph@ubwaco.org

GROUPS

Micasas

Micasas are designed to build more intentional community within the larger community of UBC.  They meet on either Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday night.  If you would like to get plugged into a Micasa, sign-up in the foyer or contact andie@ubcwaco.org for questions.
