Liturgy Stuff 1-9-2022

January 9, 2022

Below, you’ll find the song lyrics and scripture readings for the live stream on January 9th (in the order they are needed).

We Three Kings

we three kings of far away are
bearing gifts, we traverse afar
field and fountain, moor and mountain
following yonder star

star of wonder, star of light
star with royal beauty, bright
westward leading, still proceeding
guide us to thy perfect light

born a king on Bethlehem’s plain
gold I bring to crown him again
king forever, ceasing never
over us all to reign

star of wonder, star of light
star with royal beauty, bright
westward leading, still proceeding
guide us to thy perfect light

glorious now, behold him arise
king and god and sacrifice
hallelujah, hallelujah
sound of praise ring through the night

star of wonder, star of light
star with royal beauty, bright
westward leading, still proceeding
guide us to thy perfect light

Call to Worship

we have gathered to worship the Eternal One

the one whose voice shakes mountains
the one whose voice is in the silence

to enter the story of God

and find our own stories reimagined

and to open our hearts to the Spirit of the Living God

that we might learn to see our neighbor
as God does

amen

House of God Forever

god is my shepherd, I won’t be wanting
I won’t be wanting
god makes me rest in fields of green
with quiet streams
even though I walk through the valley
of death and dying
I will not fear, for you are with me
you’re always with me

your shepherd’s staff comforts me
you are my feast in the presence of enemies
surely goodness will follow me, follow me
in the house of god, forever

SMS [Shine]

send me a sign, a hint a whisper
throw me a line, ‘cause I am listening
come break the quiet, breathe your awakening
bring me to life, ‘cause I am fading

surround me with the rush of angels’ wings

shine your light so I can see you
pull me up, I need to be near you
hold me I need to feel love
can you overcome this heart that’s overcome?

you sent a sign, a hint, O Whisper
human, divine; heaven is listening
death laid love quiet, yet in the night: a stirring
all around the rush of angels

shine your light so I can see you
pull me up, I need to be near you
hold me I need to feel love
can you overcome this heart that’s overcome?

o the wonder of the greatest love has come

shine your light so all can see it
lift it up ‘cause the whole world needs it
love has come, what joy to hear it
he has overcome; he has overcome

Old Testament Reading

Today’s Old Testament reading is Isaiah 43:l-7:

Thus says the Lord,
he who created you, O Jacob,

he who formed you, O Israel:

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;

when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.

For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

I give Egypt as your ransom,
Ethiopia and Seba in exchange for you.

Because you are precious in my sight,
and honored, and I love you,

I give people in return for you,
nations in exchange for your life.

Do not fear, for I am with you;
I will bring your offspring from the east,
and from the west I will gather you;

I will say to the north, "Give them up,"
and to the south, "Do not withhold;

bring my sons from far away
and my daughters from the end of the earth--

everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed and made."

New Testament Reading

Today’s New Testament reading, and Josh’s sermon text, is John 14:6:

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Giving

UBC relies on the generosity of the community. If you are a in place that you are able to give of your time, talent, and resources to UBC we would be grateful. If you want to make a financial contribution, the easiest way to do so is through our church center app.

There

before there were mountains to crumble
before there were seas to rise
before there way pain, the loss and the weight
you were there, you were there, you were there

although our fear is rising
although our fire has gone out
although our hearts are worried and fraught
you are there, you are there, you are there

i’ve got a problem, i’ve made a drug
of worrying over what is yet to come
it’s clouding my vision, strangling my love away

after the sun stops burning
after the stars have gone out
after the world ceases to turn
you’ll be there, you’ll be there, you’ll be there
